The glitter, sequins and paillette ‘mirrors’ are glued to the fabric to accentuate the fabric’s multicolored and detailed pattern. Let me start this review, by saying the skirt is very pretty. I will still probably wear it as a performance skirt it has lots of sparkle and fun and personality. It does say in the description for the sequins are glued on, so I think I should have lowered my standards from the beginning. I got the performance ready ship, however when I took the skirt out a lot of sequins had already fallen off. And basically moving the skirt in any way, even just shifting it around on the table, you lose lots and lots of sequins. As most dancers would know, shedding glitter is really common, however some of the sequins are placed in a way integral to the pattern on the skirt, and those are falling out, so they are more noticeable when they fall. There is no way I would put the skirt on and perform with the state that it arrived in, because I would lose so many sequins. I’m going through and sewing down many of them but it’s a lot of work for a skirt I thought would be coming performance ready, and I just don’t think the glue is robust enough to handle that without losing a lot of sequins. Also the print pattern is pretty, but in some places the block printing doesn’t line up to the point that it becomes very muddled, and messy not just a characteristic look, but actually loses the pattern. As is common with a lot of handmade things sometimes the sequins are kind of just clumped on there and aren’t placed correctly where they’re supposed to be in the pattern. Again, a very pretty skirt, and I probably will still use it for performances, but be prepare to put in a lot of work of your own if you don’t want to lose a lot of the sparkle. This is the first time I bought something from this company, and I probably will still purchase from them again, but I don’t know if I’ll buy another sparkle skirt.

      Hi Kate,

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review. It helps others know what to expect.

First, I’m so very sorry your first experience didn’t leave you thrilled. As you said, it is noted in the description that sequins are glued on and that sequin loss should be expected. They do seem to drop the most sequins when they are fresh out of the box and that can sometimes be a shock if you aren’t expecting it. It does seem to lessen with use.

Apologies on the issue with the pattern on the one you got. I don’t typically see problems like this but will try to keep an eye out for that in the future. So, thank you for the head’s up.

I would like to clarify one thing about the ‘ready to wear’ versus ‘economy’ modes. In economy mode the skirts are vacuum packed and very wrinkly, but, we can fit them in a smaller box which helps reduce the shipping cost (and saves us time by not having to steam them before shipping). For the ‘ready to wear’ modes we hand steam each skirt and pack them in a larger size box to help it arrive with the least amount of wrinkles as possible. Both modes are the same quality skirt, however. I’ll look to see if we can word it differently in the description to help clarify that better.

Again, thank you for you review and taking the time to share your experience.
      Jennifer
