Reflections & Looking Ahead

Jennifer Secrist Goran, director of Tribe Nawaar Belly Dance Company in Boulder, CO

This year has been one that has pushed me to explore new ways of staying connected thru dance. I am honored to have had so many of my students stay with us on this journey over the last 6 months.. and what a pleasant surprise to have new dancers joining us from around the country!

As I look ahead to how we can make the best of our COVID dance time I see positive things to come.As per my usual lemonade making attitude I’m seeing these times as an opportunity for fine tuning our dance movement technique and coming out the other side of this being stronger, more knowledgable dancers!

We had a great time with outdoor performing while the weather was warm (though at times very smokey)! As a dance company we are now expanding into video performance concepts and exploring possible safe indoor options for winter months.

Class Advancement & Auditions

While I am limiting performances this is a perfect time for dancers to hone their skills!

I have 4 levels of classes to challenge you:

  • Just getting started with belly dance and/or our improv format? Our level 1 classes will begin with the fundament fast and slow dance steps and each move’s respective cues for improv work.
  • Have you completed at least 4 consecutive level 1 sessions? Ready to challenge yourself with leading others and working on more complicated movements? Dancers may begin adding in level 2 classes once they have firmly grasped the level 1 movement rules and cues.
  • Dancers who have fully mastered the level 2 content may wish to try their hand (or hip as it were) at auditioning for the level 3 classes. Normally our level 3 auditions are held live. This winter’s auditions, scheduled for Sunday December 6th, may possibly be held via video.
  • Level 3 & 4 classes share the exact same movement vocabulary. These complex classes have about 175 weeks worth of content! For advanced and professional dancers.
