More About This Gold Tone Shamadan

The tradition of Shamadan dancing in wedding processions dates back to the early 20th century in Egypt. Before the use of Shamadan, dancers and musicians led the Zeffa, with special decorated wedding candles and lanterns providing illumination. The Shamadan served to light the way through the dark streets and also announced the wedding to the community,

The Shamadan dance later made its way onto the Egyptian stage and into theatrical productions. Shamadan dancing requires skill and balance and can incorporate intricate choreography, including floor work and splits. It remains a captivating element of Egyptian culture and continues to be enjoyed in weddings and performances today.

Included with this Shamadan are extra arms, a second center post and some candles in clear acrylic cups. Artificial or LED type candles can also be used for a safer, non flame option. This piece is padded on the inside for comfort.

Note: Shamadans come unassembled to minimize potential damage during shipping. We’ll include printed assembly instructions with photo 🙂

Previously owned and on consignment. This piece is in moderate condition. Dusty with signs of age and use, candle wax drippings. Still very sturdy with many years use still ahead.
