How Cleaner & Polish For Zils Work

Metal polish is a specialized cleaning product used to restore the shine and smoothness of metal items. It works by using microscopic abrasives to gently buff away surface oxidation, tarnish, and stains, while leaving behind a protective film to prevent future corrosion.

Here is a quick breakdown of what metal polish does and how it functions:

1. Removes Tarnish and Oxidation
When metals (like brass, copper, and silver) react with oxygen and moisture, they develop a dull, dark, or chalky layer known as oxidation or tarnish. Polish breaks down and strips away this layer to reveal the fresh metal underneath.

Use & Precautions

Polishes are a chemical compound and should be handled with safety in mind. They are skin and eye irritants and should not be ingested. We recommend using outdoors and wearing gloves and googles. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using polish. Lay out a piece of cardboard or other protective cover over the area you will be working on.

For best results remove the old elastic first- it’s a good time to replace old elastic with new replacement elastic.

1. Apply a small dab of cleaner/polish with a soft cloth using a circular rubbing motion in a well ventilated area, covering/protecting skin & surfaces.
2. Refold dirty sections of cloth to clean sections as the dark tarnish is transferred from the zil to the cloth.
3. Continue buffing with a clean cloth until your zils have reached the desired shine.

Wash hands well with soap and water after use, but, do not dispose of unused polish down drain as there is long term risk to aquatic life and we want to protect that.

 Includes enough polish to clean several full set of 4 zils and then some. Don’t be fooled by the small size of the container!
