Who doesn’t love the classic belly dance tassel belt? Our gilded tasseled hip scarf is inspired by traditional camel headdresses. These belts add a colorful pop to any costuming and accent movement with their playful bounce and swing.

Made in Boulder, Colorado, USA by The Nawaar Dance Company’s director, Jennifer Secrist Goran, using new and up-cycled components. She has over 35 years experience with this dance form & costume making. She knows how every piece will accent movement and hold up to the rigors of dance. These make her one of a kind costuming & accessory designs much sought after by fellow dancers. The eco-chic nature of this design means it’s good for the environment, as well!

More About Our Gilded Tasseled Hip Scarf

Made right here in The Nawaar Studio of the most decadent and luscious upcycled textiles & yarns available. That means that in addition to being beautiful these belts are eco-chic and good for the environment, as well!

Sequins & beads in textile base catch the light nicely. Strategically placed tassels exaggerate a dancer’s hip movements. A fabulous accent for classic ATS/FCBDstyle belly dance. Looks wonderful on all genders!

This hip scarf pairs beautifully with any of our long skirts and pants!

Fabric & Construction:

Jennifer starts with vintage textiles on a sturdy reinforced base, adds accent colors as needed and then creates a lined base and ties from new black 100% cotton fabric. Using largely up-cycled yarn and wools she hand wraps each tassel and then strings them together to create assorted length falls. These tassel falls are then hand sewn onto the sturdy scarf base.

Reinforced ties add a level of security during dance performances. Slight darting along hip band helps hug curves. Tassels at the end of ties add interest and help adorn the tie area.

Measurements

Triangle hip scarf measures 27″ horizontally and is 16″ tall from top center to bottom center (with tassel fall the total measurement is about 27″). The tassels are vary in length and range from approximately 2 3/4″  to 4″ tall each.

Size:
This belt fits 29 1/2″ to 42″. Measure where the top of the scarf would sit on your body. This is the measurement you should use.

What Is Eco-Chic?

Eco-chic is what we like to call garments that are made with a focus on being environmentally mindful, low waste and 100% stylish. These tasseled hip scarves are upcycled, meaning the fabric has been repurposed from already existing garments and textiles.

How does this work?

We start with a premium vintage textiles that are unable to be used as traditional garments. These textiles are gently cleaned, pressed and custom tailored into our fabulous one of a kind belt bases. Our tassels are typically made with repurposed yarns, coming. Typically only the lining on the inside of the waistband and ties use newly produced components.

This type of fabric reuse is one of the best things we can do for the environment. It helps unused garments find a new purpose and reduces the amount of textiles that end up in landfills. A win for you and a win for the planet!
