Lineage
Based on the traditional choli of India, we offer new choli top's in a large assortment of fabrics (such as cotton lycra, velvet, stretch lace and ornamented cotton) and a diverse set of rich colors. These contemporary versions offer a range of movement, esthetic styling and confortable fit that make them an ideal choice for performance, class and street wear. The open back not only helps to keep us cool, but, has the added benefit of showing off the large amount of muscle movement used when executing much of our upper body work. Their lineage can be traced back to the tribal communities of northern India. The Thar Desert in Rajasthan, with its long history of colorful and ornate textiles, and skilled artisans, has had a particularly strong influence on much of the costuming you will find in our collection today. The traditional choli (also called Kanchli or Kunchuki) is mirrored, with intricate details and rich colors on the front and plain fabrics on the back, as this part would be covered by a long drape, called a Sari or Odhani. The Sari would be tucked into a skirt at the front and draped over the head. This not only allowed a level of modesty for the wearer, but provided some protection from the sun and comfort from the heat as it would catch breezes nicely.
