Music of the Ouled Naïl
Recorded in Algeria at Bou Saada, Chellala, and Medea in 1973. Most of these pieces were recorded
at performances of the famed Ouled Naïl tribe, well known for their music and dance. First released on
LP in 1974, this digitally re-mastered, all Algerian version includes 40 minutes of additional music.
Recorded in Alexandria, Cairo and Luxor, this album presents three examples of contemporary
Egyptian urban music played on traditional instruments such as qanoun, oud, nay, riqq, mazhar
and tabla. The featured musical composition is "Hani."
